Motability has announced drivers are no longer required to have a black box fitted to their vehicles, this announcement comes just weeks after the Drive Smart app was launched.

The boxes had been made compulsory for new leaseholders under the age of 30.  Initially the Drive Smart app had been introduced to reduce accidents and manage insurance costs, however it is currently being halted over concerns from users.   

After listening to users, Motability’s CEO, has recognised that the Drive Smart app was not working as it should.  It will now be put on hold whilst a review is carried out, and a new customer panel is created to ensure the future development works for all.

We await further news on when an updated Drive Smart app may be put in place.
