Drive Smart: What it means for your Motability WAV

Drive Smart is a new app for people who lease a car or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) via the Motability Scheme.

Designed to help you build safer driving habits, Drive Smart recognises safe drivers with up to £160 in rewards to be spent with well-known brands like Asda, M&S, Uber Eats and more.

Drive Smart measures key actions contributing to safer journeys, scoring each WAV driver on a traffic-light scale from Green to Red based on metrics including:

  • Speed: keeping within the speed limit
  • Smoothness: gentle acceleration, braking and cornering
  • Usage: how often and how far the car is driven
  • Location: only journeys in your Scheme car are recorded when the Drive Smart device is connected
  • Phone use: when your phone is used during a trip (for example, on a call or using the screen)

Initially, Drive Smart will be rolled out across any car or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle contract with named drivers under the age of 30, although it is anticipated that the app will become available for all new customers leasing a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle through the Motability Scheme.

Eligible customers will receive a pack directly from Motability containing the Drive Smart device, alongside further instructions for connecting the phones of named vehicle drivers when in use.
