Powerchair football star from Middlesbrough keen to pursue sport
A teenager from Middlesbrough is hoping to become a star of the football pitch after discovering the enjoyment of powerchair football.
Ryan Dack, 19, who has Duchenne muscular Dystrophy, has been given a big confidence boost after experiencing a number of taster sessions with Middlesbrough Powerchair Football Club. A sports club for males and females of all ages with a severe disability, it gives wheelchair users the chance to experience the thrill and adrenaline of fast-paced sports.
The experience took Ryan by surprise, who said in an interview that he was unaware that such sporting activities were available for wheelchair users. He enjoyed it so much that he now wants to pursue the sport and purchase his own specialist powerchair – a cost of £4,482. He had previously been using a rented chair from the club.
While Ryan may well use the help a wheelchair accessible vehicle can provide to reach the training sessions, having his own chair will mean that he can carry on enjoying his football for years to come.
