Health trust suspends Blue Badge parking charge plans

A health trust which had controversially issued plans to start charging Blue Badge holders to park in its three hospitals has announced that it will be suspending the launch of this action until after a consultation is carried out.

The West Herts Hospitals Trust, which operates Hemel Hempstead, St Albans City and Watford Hospitals, had intended to remove free parking for cars registered for use by disabled drivers and passengers from April 1st 2013, claiming that it would improve levels of 'fairness and equality' for visitors, but the extremely angry reaction that greeted the idea now seems to have caused those who came up with it to think again.

There is currently a wide range of high quality and affordable Motability cars for sale which can dramatically improve the lives of disabled people, but the introduction of hospital parking fees for their drivers would always be met with a great deal of resistance.
