Robot to help with bed to wheelchair transfers

Whilst our business is concerned with mobility cars for sale that help wheelchair users get more freedom, a Japanese company is working on the world’s first robot capable of carrying patients between beds and wheelchairs.

The robot that can lift and transfer patients in hospitals and care homes is still in the prototype stage and nearing clinical testing, but should be available commercially in around 3 years time.

The main function of the device known as RIBA-II will be to help healthcare professionals transfer heavy patients (up to 80kg) from their beds to wheelchairs and other medical transfers. The RIBA-II features touch screens, tactile sensors and guidance controls.

This is great news to healthcare professionals around the world who currently use mechanical hoists to help transfer patients and avoid injury that can be caused by manual transfer.
