Credit ban for mobility trader

The owner of a mobility aid sales company that specialises in scooters has had his license to sell the vehicles on credit revoked.

Amarjit Gill, the owner of Nottingham-based ABM Mobility, was the subject of over 100 customer complaints in 2010 and consequently punished with a six-month suspended prison sentence. He was also ordered to stop employing aggressive sales techniques and misleading his customers.

Now, the Office for Fair Trading (OFT) has gone one step further by removing Gill’s credit license, following reports he failed to inform customers of their rights to cancellation of orders, refunds and a ‘cooling off’ period. Mr Gill was also accused of falsely claiming he was the representative of a government body.

The injunction sends a clear message to rogue businesses that try to take advantage of people who require the assistance of scooters and mobility cars that dishonest behaviour such as this will be detected and appropriately dealt with.
